Solcast

Predicted solar generation via Solcast.

This integration connects to Solcast, a solar forecasting service, to predict how much your panels are likely to generate over the coming hours and days. It's a Forecast capability - it doesn't read anything from your hardware, it estimates future output based on your site's location, panel setup, and weather data.

What it provides

  • Predicted solar generation, in 30-minute slots
  • Forecasts for each solar array registered against your Solcast account

Connecting

You'll need a Solcast API key. Sign up at solcast.com(opens in new tab), add your site (location, panel orientation, and capacity), then generate an API key from your Solcast account API page(opens in new tab). Once connected, metrd fetches the list of solar sites registered under that key and matches them to your solar array.

Solcast's free tier covers most home installations; higher-frequency or multi-site forecasting may require a paid plan - see Solcast's pricing(opens in new tab) for details.

Rate limits

Solcast API keys are rate-limited on a daily basis. metrd tracks your remaining allowance and pauses forecast polling automatically once you're out for the day, resuming again once the limit resets - so a busy day won't cause errors, just a pause in new forecast data until tomorrow.
