How to read the live energy diagram.

A display is the live diagram you land on when you open metrd. It's built from up to four sections, arranged so energy visually flows between them:

• Solar - what your panels are generating right now
• Battery - charge or discharge rate, plus state of charge
• Grid - power being imported from or exported to the grid
• House - what your home is currently drawing

Only the sections your hardware actually reports will appear - if you don't have a battery configured, the diagram simply won't show one.

Reading the flow lines

Lines connect the sections that currently have power moving between them. A line only lights up when there's real flow to show - for example, the line from Solar to Battery appears while your panels are actively charging it, and disappears once the battery is full or generation drops.

Power can flow in either direction between the grid and your battery or house, and metrd reflects that: the same line will run one way when you're exporting and the other when you're importing.

Updates

The diagram updates live as new readings arrive, without needing to refresh the page. If a section stalls or a connection drops, its value simply stops updating rather than dropping to zero, so a paused feed doesn't get mistaken for an actual power outage.

Multiple displays

An account can have more than one display - useful if you monitor more than one site or want a different layout for a specific purpose. One display is marked as the default and is what you see when you open metrd without picking one specifically.
